I recently had a leaking, seized garbage disposal and called Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric to replace it. Scheduling was a breeze—I got an appointment for the next day, and their call center quickly followed up to confirm the issue. They also called before the scheduled time to confirm availability and provide a more accurate arrival window, which I appreciated. The technician, Jack, showed up right on time and was fantastic—friendly, professional, and clearly knowledgeable. He answered all my questions about the estimate, completed the install quickly, and the new disposal looks great. He also walked me through how it works and answered a few extra questions about my dishwasher line. I felt confident in his expertise and appreciated his patience and thoroughness. The only downside was the price. I was charged $1,200 for the replacement, which is about $700 more than the national average of $300–$500 for parts and labor. Applewood explained that the higher cost includes a 10-year warranty, access to a large technician network for fast service, and their well-stocked warehouse to ensure quick resolution of issues. While those factors help justify the price, it’s still a steep premium compared to standard rates. Overall, if you’re looking for fast, professional, high-quality service and are willing to pay for convenience and peace of mind, Applewood delivers. Over the past year, I've had Applewood do residential service for my AC condenser as well as my gas furnace. They seem to get positive feedback, so I didn't shop them against other contractors... big mistake. On my most recent residential project (replacing hard wired smoke/CO detectors), I again got a bid from Applewood as well as three other contractors. The price delta of the estimates was shocking. Applewood was 83% higher than the winning bid and 32% higher than the next closest bidder. Even with my Gold Membership discount was applied, Applewood was still 59% higher than the winning bid. I actually reached out to ask if my estimate already included my Gold discount, because the estimate provided was not clear. They confirmed it was already discounted and provided the following reply: "In the interest of full transparency, Applewood is known to be one of the higher-cost companies in the area, as we are a small, family-owned, local business. We do not strive to be the lowest-priced, we strive to provide quality workmanship and excellent customer service, but there are likely other companies that do offer lower pricing for these services." Now knowing where they are priced in the market, I can't continue using Applewood. I agree that not every business wants to be the low cost provider, but it was still shocking to see just how far in left field they were. It should be noted that I had no issues with the service work Applewood provided on the jobs they completed. However, on this project I got the same prompt, professional, friendly service from another contractor for almost 50% less, saving me over $1,000.

Zach was our technician, and he did an excellent job—he diagnosed and fixed our air conditioning quickly, explained everything clearly, and kept us updated throughout the process. Applewood was super fast and convenient. My AC stopped working in the middle of a hot summer week. I made an appointment online at 9pm and they were able to get out to me the very next morning. I ended up paying more than I expected but I’m sure all of these services are expensive. It was my first time working with an AC repair service so I didn’t really know what to expect. My technician was kind and answered my questions.
