Avoid having Derrick take care of any of your plumbing needs. He will take advantage of you if you aren't sure of what the problem is. Our dishwasher drain tube, which runs from the dishwasher to the garbage disposal, had a crack at the top of it that was leaking water. So we set up an appointment to have a plumber come and take a look at it and hopefully replace the entire tube. I had to work, so my girlfriend waited for the plumber to show up. Derrick was the plumber that showed up. He took a look at it and decided that the best route to take was to cut the end off of the drain tube and install a connector piece that costs $5.23 from Home Depot to re-attach it to the garbage disposal. But for some reason, he couldn't get the drain tube on the connector, so he cut and put a piece of copper pipe inside the connector?? Then, he tightened down all of the hose clamps as tight as he could. Needless to say, there was still a leak after he left... For that "work," he charged my girlfriend $474!? $474 for 15 minutes of work and a part that costs less than $6, and it still leaked... Even if he had fixed the problem, that is a RIDICULOUS amount of money to charge for that amount of "work" and parts. I am very unhappy with the work that Derrick did, and even more unhappy with the feeling of someone taking advantage of my girlfriend. (The images below are in order from the time of the crack, to after Derrick worked on it, to when i got home from work and had to fix it myself. The video was taken right after Derrick had left, and the final image shows the copper pipe that i removed from inside the connector piece and the extra hose clamp that was not needed.)
Update July 2025– The damage claims person I had been working with for a year no longer works with AB May and his replacement Shawn reached out to me. He was wonderful and did everything in his power to rectify the situation. I have since been fairly compensated for the damage and would be more likely to recommend AB May now that Shawn is there. Updating rating to 3 stars. I have never had a worse experience than I had with AB May plumbing services. I had a home warranty through them, so when I had leaks I decided to go through them to replace all of our indoor plumbing from cast iron to PVC. The installers were woefully unprepared for the job. Not only was the work shoddy, but those sent to repair would claim that it couldn’t be fixed just to change their tune once my dad who is a contractor was around to argue. Much of it was rushed due to either inexperience or trying to save time on our job, and even the plumber AB May sent to remedy some parts admitted it’s not how he would want it in his own home. I had to take off many days of work to keep up with the multiple follow up repairs the work required. On top of it all, we had to stay elsewhere one night because the whole house water was shut off and we came home the next morning to a ruined kitchen floor because they left a pipe uncapped. Now it’s been a whole year later and we still haven’t been compensated for the damage.
Called on a Friday at 4 the issue was a breaker that was smoking and I could hear it arching in the box. They came out and took a look, told me that I had to replace the service. That there wasn’t anything they could do but leave off the two breakers as it was a safety issue. Came up with an estimate of $8700 to do the job. Told me that it would take somewhere between two weeks and two months to complete the job. I advised the technician that I had a wheelchair bound person living in the walk out basement and that these breakers controlled the electrical system down there. No problem we will get right on it after you give us a deposit of 1/3 of the estimate. $3000 and a week later. I fired them. No communication from them. I emailed, called and text. Finally I got a call back from the technician. He said he couldn’t even meet with the Ameren engineer for at least a week. I called a local guy Mr electric who came over and gave me an estimate of $5000 less and would be able to complete it in a week. Yes the work needed to be done but ab is too busy so I moved on. Their communication is terrible and the price is way high. Can’t give zero star or I would. Pictures of before and after. The only reason I gave a review was because they insisted. Text me twice to do it. Yes they refunded my money and yes they wasted my time. Beware
I was surprised to get the call that system checks were free with my membership. I feel very secure knowing that even when I don’t have a clue, I can get things checked out! Nate came out and inspected it and he was amazing. He was friendly and explained the whole thing so well! My engineer was Brian and he was very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful! He got me all set up to finance my system and explained the process super well. He even communicated with me about my systems arrival and when work would be done in the days after everything was scheduled. Jason replaced my system with his tech! He was right on time and super laid back which helped my anxiety quite a bit. I could tell he knew exactly what he was doing. They had all the work finished up by midday and I didn’t have to worry about a single thing with them working in my house while I was away! Overall great experience. Thanks to all the people who helped me get my new HVAC system!
Anthony Morales from AB May installed our water softener and did a tremendous job. We are very happy with entire process. Anthony is the reason we selected AB May. He explained the equipment in detail. His presentation of the equipment and the project in total made our decision easy. Thank you Anthony.
